Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone has had problems with the Gentoo 2004.3 LiveCDs? I've tried installing a few times from these CDs (stage3/GRP) and keep coming up with problems. For example, emerging hotplug tries to download files from the mirrors even though the files should be on the CD. I ended up letting it download just so I could move on.

I also tried installing KDE from the Packages CD. Although the emerge worked without a problem, I cannot get the X server to start correctly. I'm using an AccelStar Permidia 2 AGP card. However, when I 'startx', I'm getting an error:

Symbol XAAScreenIndex from module /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/glint_drv.o is unresolved!

This error is reported about 10 times and the X server gives up. I've also tried other video drivers including the generic VESA and Linux Frame Buffer with this AGP card. Nothing seems to work.

The thing is, this card has worked perfectly fine from the Gentoo 2004.1 and .2 CDs, as well as other distros like Mandrake, KNOPPIX, Slackware. Has anyone else had any luck with this? Especially the video card problem?

You should copy the files from /mnt/cdrom/distfiles/* to /mnt/gentoo/usr/portage/distfiles

Gentoo first looks in the distfile folder if there is a file, if not it will attemt to download it.

Im not sure about your AGP card, but why dont you install 2004.2 first, get it all working and then emerge -u world ?

Well I'm getting a new system soon, so my earlier troubles will hopefully not be a problem anymore. I will probably either use the 2004.2 CDs, or do a network install. We'll see what happens.
