|
|
My Skype does't want to ring, when someone calls me. I see flashing icon in my taskbar, but hear nothing. It did ring in the previous version.
I installed it via ACCEPT_KEYWORDS=~x86 emerge skype.
Yes, I have the sound files present.
Yes, everything is fine during talk, they can hear me, I can hear them.
I'm using Audigy working under ALSA.
Also, there is an option in Skype, so that you can hear the ring via PC speaker. I'm using headphones all the time, so it would be very convenient, when I'm away from my box. How to make this option working, because, of course, just turning on in the "options" didn't helped much ;o).
I would be very pleased for _any_ sugestions.
Cheers

Maybe some more information would help. I'm using KDE, but no sound daemon (no arts, no esd). The skype wrapper identifies this correctly. I also noticed that in the options menu, I have a combo box for the headphones sound containing only /dev/dsp, and another combo box which is grayed out. |

Solved my Problem.
I had -fstack-protector set in my use-flag. after recompiling artsd, alsa without this flag, everything worked.
I'll never use it again |

I don't have that USE flag, so I'm still stuck with skype not ringing. I don't even use arts... |

May,
Today, for some obscure reason, skype actually ringed!!! So the problem is solved, but not because of anything I did. |

Hi.
I have the same problem: I can't hear the ring tone. Everything works fine except that.
I'm using OSS.
The shell gives no error message.
I also tried to check the "ring pc speaker" checkbox, which didn't work.
I searched the forum, but couldn't find anything.
I wish it started to work for some obscure reason too ! |

Change Skype to version 0.92.0.12. On my computer only this one rings. I checked the newest version available on Skype site and Gentoo version via emerge, neither rang.
Cheers

Using:
Code: | skype --resources-path /<your path>/skype/ |
seems to solve the problem for me.
I wonder if the resource path is hard coded? |

I am having this problem of not being able to hear when people call in, or any 'ring' when I'm calling others.
I do have the 'arts' flagged set and skype was compiled with arts also.
[ebuild R ] net-im/skype-1.0.0.20 +arts -esd -static 368 kB
I can hear peopple fine and they can hear me. Grey box also in the 'ring' section of the sound options like said above also. |
