|
|
I'm new to Linux and I have a stupid question. The manual says Quote: |
First, you will need to cd to the location of the packages directory, for the liveCD you will find it at /mnt/cdrom/gentoo/packages. In that directory you will find the grp-install.sh script, an All directory that contains all of the binary packages, and a list of available GRP packages. To install any/all of these package sets you should do the following: Code: | Code listing 15.1: Using GRP
# sh grp-install.sh <list of package lists> |
|
First
Quote: | you will need to cd to the location of the packages directory, for the liveCD you will find it at /mnt/cdrom/gentoo/packages |
how do I do this? I typed
Code: | # /mnt/cdrom/gentoo/packages |
and got
Code: | bash: /mnt/cdrom/gentoo/packages: No such file or directory |
In the manual it says
Quote: | grp-install.sh can be run multiple times without replacing existing installations. You can do a sh grp-install.sh for a basic usage description if you are still a bit foggy. |
so I typed:
and got
Code: | grp-install.sh: grp-install.sh: No such file or directory |
Did I do something wrong or am I just ignorant and am missing something obvious.
I am installing the stage3 tarball on an PII 400 Dell optiplex.
Thanks!
Some may say that I should just reinstall mandrake, but I'm learning too much. |

Try typing:
Code: |
cd /mnt/cdrom/gentoo/packages
|

Hrmm...
Try going to /mnt, and do an ls to see if there is a cdrom directory. Then go to the next directory, etc. etc. _________________ Darren Greer

I typed
and got Code: | bash: /mnt: is a directory | then I typed and got
Quote: | GNP boot etc home mnt proc sbin usr
bin dev grp lib opt root tmp var |
I didn't see a cdrom directory.
However, when I was getting ready for GRP (9.2 in manual) I typed Code: | #mkdir /mnt/gentoo/grp
#mount -o bind /mnt/cdrom/gentoo/packages /mnt/gentoo/grp |
Realizing it said GRP instead of grp I installed Code: | mkdir /mnt/gentoo/GRP
#mount -o bind /mnt/cdrom/gentoo/packages /mnt/gentoo/GRP | thinking that I could delete the file later.
Thanks for the help, what should I do next?[/list] |

I'm starting over, I realized that I didn't specify the file type (82 or 83) when I partitioned the hard drive . I'll get it right this time! |

ya that happened to me too. I just started all over again and it worked fine. I think it may have had to do with rebooting after fdisk. oh well. _________________ ...poop |
