I installed the ati-drivers ~x86 package, and recompiled the kernel, as necessary. However, now, the boot logo (tux) doent show up at all. Did I just forget something in the kernel, or do the ati-drivers not support this kind of thing?

Thanks!

Boot logo is a feature of framebuffer - most likely you forgot compile it in.

However, when using propertiary drivers (like ati-drivers, nvidia-kernel etc) it is not recommended to use framebuffers because it will likely crash when changing video modes (i.e. from X to console)

If you want fast opengl - forget about framebuffer and all of it's benefits - bootsplashes, boot logos and awesome text resolutions.
