When I plug the parallel cord in for the printer the computer doesn't show me any ports, and the kernel is pretty ho-hum about it, as well. When I plug in the USB cable the kernel spills some info ...but doesn't give me any clue as to the device to tap for it to work!

This is three times out of three times --pl2303, usb hard drive, printer, so it has moved from chance, to coincidence, and finally to a trend. I have tried /dev/usb/lp0 thru /dev/usb/lp9 and been informed on each try that the interface doesn't exist. I looked in /dev/usb and the msg is correct. I am using kernel-2.6.9-gentoo-r1 & CUPS. I think that I need this device recognized before I can utilize the gimp-print-ijs driver from the thread discussing same. Am I mistaken, or otherwise missing something in the kernel output? This is the first time I have had to hunt for the proper device even once, so am a bit lost (I used to run SuSE).
Help much appreciated. Thanks! _________________ ...Yogi
