I am trying to get a graphical desktop. I would preferr to go with gnome. I understand there is a bug and they are working on it. Any idea as to when it might be working? I have tried to emerge gnome and get the following message.
=====[snippet]
emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "virtual/fam"
=====[snippet]
Am I doing something wrong or is gnome offline until fixed? Thanks. _________________ /\/\/\/\ GreatWhiteShark /\/\/\ |

Hi,
Could you do: emerge sync , and then post the complete results for:
emerge -p gnome ?
We might be able to help you more if you could do that. _________________ Sincerly,

Quote: | emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "virtual/fam" | There is at least 'gamin', which in my hands does a better job than fam, while being a drop-in replacement. |

There are the packages that i would merge, in order:
Calculating dependencies -
emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "virtual/fam".

As someone mentioned, gamin is much better than fam (less resource intensive).
Also, fam on my /usr/portage is in app-admin/fam not virtual/fam. I've seen that several people had this issue, and
ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge fam
emerge gnome
works. I don't know if ti will work for you but its worth a try.
