VMware and kernel 2.6.10-r6

Hi,

does anybody else have a problem with VMware and gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.10-r6? I am getting a strange effect that somehow the palette used on the desktop (X and Vmware window) gets distorted when I start an OS in VMware, which is strange because I am using 24bit color depth. When I switch to a terminal with Ctrl+Alt+F1 and back to X, the effect is gone but usually reappears after a couple of minutes.

When I switch back to an older kernel, like 2.6.9-r9, the problem does not appear.

Does anybody have an idea how to get rid of the problem (apart from switching back to 2.6.9?)

Btw, I am using:
sys-kernel/gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.10-r6
media-video/nvidia-kernel-1.0.6629-r1
media-video/nvidia-glx-1.0.6629-r1
and
x11-base/xorg-x11

I don't have any issues with 2.6.10-r4 and the latest version of vmware.

I am using an nvidia card with the latest drivers (problem also appears with older nvidia-kernels, e.g. nvidia-kernel-1.0.6111-r3, I checked that as well).
But when I switch to kernel 2.6.9-r9, the problem is gone.

Found a solution?
Really dont wanna downgrade my kernel..

I'm not having these issues and I'm running VMWare 4.5.2, kernel 2.6.10-r6, nvidia-kernel 6629 and xorg-x11 6.8.0.

I am currently using the kernel version 2.6.9 with framebuffer support and have no problems. I am going to try if turning off framebuffer helps (I guess so, because framebuffer is known to cause a lot of problems).

That's sad though, I kind of like framebuffer terminals ;-)

I had the same problem.

I really hated the idea of getting rid of my pretty screens, but then I thought to myself, "Self, how often do you use a vc?" The answer to that is "almost never, unless something goes south with my nVidia driver. So in the true spirt of only compiling things into the kernel that you'll actually use, I said au revoir to the framebuffer.

framebuffer does seem to cause more problems than it's worth with the nvidia drivers >_<...

NVidia isn't the only culprit. I have problems with the Radeon driver, too.
