Thanks Nixnut!
Ok, I'm not sure If I set up my login information correctly when doing the install. Anyways, I tried root with a blank password, a password I use often, and nothing seems to be working. is there a default login name and password I can try?
SummersTux Login: root
password:
Login(pam_unix)[1150]: authentication failure; logname=LOGIN uid=0 euid=0 tty=/d ev/tty1 ruser= rhost= user=root

Don't be silly, this isn't windows.
You probably forgot something while configuring. Well, no problem, boot the livecd, mount your root partition on /mnt, edit /mnt/etc/shadow and clear out the password (the string between the ":" delimiters after "root:" . Then after rebooting the sytem you should be able to log in as root without password. Make sure you then set a password again for the root account! _________________ Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved. Help answer the unanswered

I am taking your advice to stop being stilly. I am now cool.
I found the shadow file, and the root entry is:
root:*:10770:0:::::
So I'm not exactly sure, but are you saying to edit it to:
root::10770:0:::::
or:
root:*::0:::::
or something else altogether? |

Change it to root::10770:0:::::. The "*" means that that account can't be used to login at all. Which is probably not what you want for root. _________________ Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved. Help answer the unanswered

If your root partition is /dev/hda2 then you mount it on /mnt with mount /dev/hda2 /mnt _________________ Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved. Help answer the unanswered
