I've seen this mentioned before somewhere on the internet (i know, that helps narrow it down right?)... just wondering if someone can point me in the right direction.

Xinerama usually works on a single machine with multiple (or dualhead) video cards. This project was a fork of the xinerama project that enabled multiple networked computers to coordinate their displays to act as a single unified display. Each computer could have one or more video cards.

Can anyone remember where I might have seen this, or what it was called?

I am not sure if this is the project that you are referring to or not.

But there is synergy. http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/
Code:

emerge synergy

It allows you to use one keyboard and one mouse on multiple computers with multiple monitors on each computer. It also supports cut and paste between the computers.

I have not heard of a project that would allow you to have the ability to drag windows from one networked desktop to the other however.

Hope that helps!

It was a fork of the xinerama extension that seemed to be in a development stage used by some university to work on group projects in a conference setting. It was very interesting, I just can't seem to pull it up again.

Havent tried anything with it, I actually logged onto the forums looking for a solution, but didnt and found this using google. http://dmx.sourceforge.net/
[edit]
I got it working between an Xvnc session and a localseesion, couldnt get it working between a local and a remote session. Well dont really mind because the vnc session should have some compression to help.
