I got this soon to be retired 56k modem, when i wvdial when logged in as root via gdm, everything works fine, but if i login my primary user, things start to freak out, like sometimes stuff work, sometimes it does, when thing's don't work, i get like 150 b/s avereage on my modem, and when it works itr works fine.
The thing is it only works perfectly every time if i do it as root without having my primary user logged in via gdm, anybody got a clue?
would a listing of apps spawned by logging in my primary user help?
I know i solved a problem like this a few months ago by removing some app, please help me ot here... |

Just a suggestion of something to check - I'm thinking that if root can, but users can't (I know, you said sometimes), it could be a permissions problem... if not, I probably can't be of much help (I'm lan->cable) - but double check your /etc/security/console.perms, it should contain a line like this:
Code: | <console> 0666 <serial> 0666 root.tty |
