I thought I'd give Entrance a try. The install went fine, and when I run
"entrance -T"
from a console within X, entrance loads properly (it does give me the "WARNING: not a utf8 locale!" message, but it fires up OK).
However, when I run entrance from a terminal prompt outside of X, which is how I would run it at boot time, it gives me a Segmentation fault message and stops. I don't get past the command line. Ouch.
Anybody have the same problem, or know of a workaround?

Runs fine from terminal in X but segfaults if run without X....

"entranced" as root gets me a bit further: into X, past the Nvidia plash screen, and then a cycling black screen with random colors. This is usually what I get when X can't really startup. I have to reboot the computer (not even ctl-alt-backspace gets me out). And since I can't exit X, and have to reboot, I can't check the .xsession-errors file. Maybe I could check it by way of a second virtual console, but at any rate I'm not much further ahead.
More research for the weekend, I suppose. |

I have the exact same problem, I have infact had it before. That time it was due to a failed where I didn't upgrade all the required libraries.
This time I don't know what to do. I boot and then entranced seg faults, I am currently rebuilding esmart, evas, ecore, edje, and entrance. If you have had a breakthrough, please post it. |

Just do an "emerge --sync"
then portage will downgrade the entrance Version to "x11-misc/entrance-0.9.0.001.20050220"
Ooops saw the date now ....
Got the problem with a newer Version of entrance too which seamed to be a little bit buggy |
