This has probably been answered before, but the answer still evades me...

Anyway, i got the fglrx module loaded finally, but now whenever i use the config file generated by fglrxconfig the system locks up completely. This isn't a problem when I use the old xorg.conf. Here's the output of lsmod:
Code:
Module                  Size  Used by
joydev                 10048  0
usb_storage            69440  0
usbhid                 43584  0
parport_pc             43076  0
parport                37704  1 parport_pc
radeonfb               46504  1
i2c_algo_bit            9864  1 radeonfb
i2c_i801                8716  0
i2c_core               22912  3 radeonfb,i2c_algo_bit,i2c_i801
jedec_probe            17536  0
cfi_probe               6912  0
gen_probe               3712  2 jedec_probe,cfi_probe
mtdcore                 7364  0
chipreg                 3712  2 jedec_probe,cfi_probe
map_funcs               2176  0
uhci_hcd               32656  0
evdev                   9600  0
fglrx                 236640  0
r8169                  20872  0

If anyone has any insight on this matter, I'd really appreciate it. I'm working with a laptop with a radeon 9700 mobility. On a side note, I had little trouble getting these drivers to work on my desktop (radeon 9500 pro), so I'm wondering whats wrong now.

have you got agpgart and an agp driver for your chipset compiled into the kernel? or module?. If its a module, make sure its loaded.

Can you post the logs from starting X with each of the configs (ie the log you get using the original xorg.conf and the log from the fglrxconfig xorg.conf)?

Try not using the radeonfb module, it should solve some problems.
