Hey, I've been struggling with this issue for quite sometime now. I will set my clock with either hwclock, date, or both and then when i reboot its scewed again. I've tried setting it in my bios but by the time it boots up its, you guessed it, scewed.

example:
not 10 minutes ago i set my bios clock to 1/30/05 18:00:00, when i booted it said my time was 1/26/05 7:45:03 or so. I rebooted and checked my bios and it said the false date aswell. I am completely stuck on this! how can i keep linux from automatically changing my clock? I must be really noobing this, but i have no clue what to do. I've tried upgrading from the 2.4 to 2.6 kernel and still i have issues. any help would be greatly apprciated!

specs:
athlonXP 2500+
msi k7n delta w/ nforce2 chipset
2.6.7 kernel

My first guess is that your battery my be going out.

Did you follow the instructions in the installation manual for setting your local timezone?

Have you installed ntpd? It can be configured to check network timeservers to adjust your time for you.

Also your clock should be set to UTC (GMT)

Hope this helps..

you can sync your time with an internet time server.

i've though about NTP but i'd really rather not use it if possible. i just did anothr test(i had and error with my localtime thing which i fixed)

i set my time and rebooted and then check the time, it said
Sun Jan 30 17:41:52 2005 -0.987833 seconds

then i rebooted, without changin anything and it said
Sun Jan 30 16:17:48 2005 -0.246860 seconds

almost a -1.5 hour change! just in a reboot! can anyone explain why this might be happening? I don't think by battery is dead but i suppose it could be that.
