This is a useless request for help. To be helped you'll need to provide a lot more information than that. What chipset? What configuration? What problem? _________________ Where there's open source , there's a way. |

There are two excellent Proliant how to's
For the smart 5300
For the Smart 2
If your card is not one of these types the approach is similar and they should get you pointed in the right direction.
Decide early which Kernel you want to use (2.4.x and devfs or 2.6.x and udev) because they require a slightly different approach. |

I apologize for the lack of information. The problem that Im having is with the raid chip being a "sym53c1510". I seam to be unable to find the right driver to load for the chip, unless the device is located some place other than /dev/ida. one other problem that is cropping up is I cant get my network cards to work. there a pair of Compaq "nc3131"s. if any one knows how to gang them up I would love to hear. _________________ Windows = Caveat Emptor |

Do the drive array and network cards work when you boot from the gentoo cd?
If they do work from the cd run lsmod to see which drivers it loads.
I have Proliant's with Smart 2 family raid controllers. The devices it creates (kernel 2.6.x) are dev/ida/cXdYpZ
X is the raid card number (starting with 0)
Y is the array on the controller (starting with 0)
Z is the partition number within the array (starting with 0)
With different kernels (devfs vs udev) I've seen variations along the lines of
/dev/ida/CxDy/disc
/dev/ida/cXdY/partZ
Is it safe to assume that you've run the smart start utilities to create the disk array?
Give the how to's I linked earlier the once over. They will give you an idea on how to procede. You may have to improvise a little too. |

Found this little nugget in the HP support forums:
SYM53c1510 Driver
The card in question is a SCSI card. Each drive should receive its own letter in /dev/sdX |

Actually neither one works at boot time. For the raid if I load cpqarray it works. So now i feel kind of stupid. As for the network cards Im still trying to get all the info out of them. _________________ Windows = Caveat Emptor |
