I know there are plenty of Gnome fans out there, I keep *trying* so very hard to like it myself - so I hope I don't ruffle any panties.
I emerged openbox and *followed the instructions* on how to run it on the openbox web site. So, it ran, then I cancelled it (ctrl+c) and metacity didn't come back.
I'm now half-able to use my desktop which wholly sucks. There are no borders on my windows and I can't click half of them (won't raise to front).
How can I restore metacity and keep it in my session?
If I have to drop and create my user to restore...I'm calling it quits for Gnome permenantly as that would make it the second time in a week I would have been forced to do that. At some point I really *do* have to get down to work and start being productive. |

And all your issues vaporize
Oh yeah, run startxfce4 to run it (or put it in your ~/.xinitrc) |

I've actually been doing some reading tonight on alternatives and xfce looks pretty cool. I *love* gnome but like all good DE's...it has developed a spare-tire around the midsection.
I think I'll give it a shot, thanks!

BTW - I was able to "trick" my session by running "metacity" at the terminal, then shut off the terminal. It stuck this time whereas last time I tried that, metacity crapped out again, leaving me w/ no grip on my windows (or reality).
I'm all better now. Honest...
I'll just check out xfce (just in case). |
