I am entering the world of multiprocessing and had a few questions. Are AMD Duron 1800s (Morgans) i686? Should -march be specified 2x (I admit this is a dumb question, but this is the first time I have set up anything like this)?
Could someone explain MAKEOPS to me? I don't understand what setting that does exactly... Thanks _________________ Hats off to everyone in leadership, developmental, or administrative capacities for Gentoo Linux. Your hard work is very much appreciated.

You can run dual Duron? Didn't know that. Anyway, yes, Durons are i686s, infact with Morgan cores they are even Athlon XPs as far as gcc is concerned. And no, you don't have to write in -march twice.
MAKEOPTS are options passed to make. Read the man page for make for available options. Usually specifying -jX (number of concurrent jobs) is enough. The devs recommend putting it to the number of processors + 1. |

Dual Durons is something that is not something that they "officially" do, but they work with the Tyan Tiger MP. Thanks for the info. _________________ Hats off to everyone in leadership, developmental, or administrative capacities for Gentoo Linux. Your hard work is very much appreciated. |
