I booted from a cd and have followed the instructions for stage 3 installation. Everything has gone well until I get to the step where you issue the env-update command. The system beeps and comes back with a "Bus error" message. I tried issueing the next command source /etc/profile and it comes back with the same message. This system previously ran Redhat just fine.

I'd be interested in knowing whether glibc is compiled with nptl and/or nptlonly USE flags.
On 2.6 kernels I'd recommend using "+nptl +nptlonly" and 2.4 kernels will obviously not use nptl as it's only supported on 2.6 If you use "+nptl -nptlonly" on 2.6 systems you're quite likely to run into semi-random segfaults etc. as documented in alpha glibc+nptl-nptlonly and sandbox cause programs to segfault + various posts to mailinglists. |
