mi è successo oggi e non ho trovato risposta nel forum italiano cercando con lynx per questo lo aggiungo.
L' errore che mi usciva al loggarmi da gdm in gnome era:

Sebbene io abbia un errore abbastanza diverso, ora ci provo lo stesso

l' "1" davandi al "777" serve per il bit sticky
ti quoto direttamente la pagina man di chmod:
