I am not that knowledgeable about linux so please be descriptive. I deleted my linux partitions and my computer keeps trying to boot grub, which is now gone. What do I need to do to be able to boot into windows? Now I didn't fully whipe the partition, so could this be the problem? My mom turned off the computer within 10 mins of when it started. |

First off, GRUB is not installed on a partition persay. It is installed on the 512k piece of hard drive known as the boot sector. GRUB is a boot loader that references bootable partitions (Linux and Windows) if configured properly. Is Windows installed on this computer on a separate partition? If so, and it is windows xp, you can boot fromt he setup/install CD and run recovery console. As a command option there should be something about restoring the MBR (or Master Boot Record) which contains the 512k boot sectors. I am not sure of the command off the top of my head. You may type a question mark at the command prompt in the recovery console for help and a listing of the commands. Hope this helps. |

FIXMBR is the command you're looking for. When I've botched a Linux installation and needed to get back to Windows, I would have to boot from the XP CD into the Recovery Console and run FIXMBR to get back to XP. |
