|
|
Top o' the morning, all.
Working on my first Gentoo install in an attempt to resurrect an old Dell Latitude CPi DX300T with 128MB memory and make it useful. Since it's my first time out, I'm trying a stage 2 installation, and have done as much of it over the network as possible. I do, though, have a copy of the universal live CD (version2004.2, I think).
Anyway, I'm having trouble with "emerge system". It fails when trying to download unzip550.tar.gz. I've googled around a bit to see if I can find the file elsewhere, but it seems that there's a new version (unzip551.tar.gz) which has replaced all the 550 versions.
Can I just download the new one and stick it somwhere and emerge it that way? Will this cause problems later on?
While I'm asking questions, I've noticed that when I try "emerge system," most often the program tries to connect to like 5 or 6 hosts before it finds one (most of the time failing with "404 not found" or "host not found").
Is this normal?
Thanks for any help! _________________ emj

try an emerge sync, there maybe an ebuild for the new version, afaik you can't get the new version and rename it because portage performs an MD5 checksum on the file before untarring it so the checksum would fail and as a result so would the merge. |

I'll give that a shot. I ran the emerge sync only a few hours before trying to emerge the system, though.
Anyway, we'll see.

But I ran emerge --sync this morning, and started emerge system before leaving for work. If it works, great. If not, I've found a copy of the older file here:
http://afs.caspur.it/afs/italia/project/casis/html/src/File/unzip550.tar.gz
So the next steps, as far as I can tell from other posts, are these:
Code: |
# cd /usr/portage/distfiles
# wget http://afs.caspur.it/afs/italia/project/casis/html/src/File/unzip550.tar.gz
# emerge unzip
|
Is this correct? And after I do that, emerge system will not try to get that same file again, right?
Thanks,

As long as it passes the MD5 checksum. If it doesn't, it will let you know real quick. _________________ "It's ok, they might have guns but we have flowers." - Perpetual Victim |

I followed the above steps, and apparently the package passed MD% with flying colors. It's emerging right now. After that, I'll try emerging the system again.
Thanks for the suggestions. _________________ emj |
