apache clientmqueue and sendmail

I have installed phpnuke but apache cannot write to the clientmqueue directory to send email. What is the correct way to give apache the permission to do this ?

can you use sendmail locally as normal user ? It seesm that the sendmail setup is broken, as a programm (apache/php) should never write this directory on its own ...

phpNuke & phpBB are writing to this directory when they send email. It will not send unless I give it permission but when I do give it permission sendmail complains of dangerous permissions on the clientmqueue directory so I am sure what to do.

It sounds like permssions and gid/sgid (or a combo of both).
