1.4_rc2 did not load the module for my network card.

You need to load the module.

ie,
Code:
insmod 8139too

what is your network card?

you can type
Code:
ifconfig -a
to see if eth0 is loaded. When you can see it there, then try
Code:
dhcpcd eth0

de or en?

I did load the module ne2k-pci and tried "dhcpcd eth0".
I also removed eth1 to make it easier. Funny, isn't it?

In the end 1.4_rc1 did all the network-stuff out of the box (net-setup).
But I really like the Gentoo-logo in rc2;-)

ja in en :)

boot from 1.4_rc2 cd

type
Code:
ifconfig -a

if you don't see eth0, then it hasn't loaded the module for nic.

load the module for your nic
Code:
insmod ne2k-pci

then
Code:
ifconfig -a
again and it should show eth0

if you STILL can't see eth0, then it's not loading the right module or something.

if you can see eth0 then try
Code:
dhcpcd eth0

then
Code:
ifconfig -a
should show eth0 with ip address. if you don't have an ip address, but you CAN see eth0, then try specifying as ip

Make sure you use ifconfig with the "-a" option!
:D

thanks for your help, but now everithing works fine (by using rc1).
When I tried rc2 I could ping my eth0 but no real network-connection (nfs-static or dhcp) was made (for example: network is unreachable..).

I only wordered why rc2 is not as easy for me as rc1.
