Okay, I don't know whats going on or what brought this problem about but it's driving me nuts. Okay. when I try to emerge ANY version of nvidia-kernel I get this error...

This happens is not only my current kernel (2.6.10-r6) but 2.6.9 and a 2.6.8 kernel I tried it on.

Upgraded to 2.6.10-r6 this morning. No problems with nvidia drivers. Using nvidia-kernel-1.0.6629-r3, which appear to be the latest version in portage. Try that to see if it an error that has already been resolved.
Also look at bug 75267 in Bugzilla. _________________ All reality is the construct of the observer.

Have you tried the suggestion from the bug report ? Quote: | Same here...
for some strange reasons ebuild does not detect architecture....
Emerging with
USE="x86" emerge nvidia-kernel
solve the problem. However user *must* not set architecture flag... |

Try erasing all files and let portage grab a new one.
Could be the file at your mirror is screwed up. You can try pointing to a different mirror. Code: | rm -rf /var/tmp/portage/nvidia-kernel-*
rm -rf /usr/portage/nvidia* |

By any chance have you upgraded gcc and/or glibc and it a possibility that you are compiling with a differnet environment than you compiled your kernel?
Try recompiling your kernel and then recompiling the nvidia-drivers. |

hum ... i had that too, and then simply installed the latest version of nvidia-kernel in portage and it all came together, im sure you already tried that ...
the version of nvdia-kernel your trying is -r4 right ?
-r4 was the only version that worked for me
PS: Theres new drivers already , but not in portage yet and the new ones already support .11 kernels
