|
|
Last night I emerge'd bind in an attempt to learn DNS on one of my servers and, after the frustration of learning my book only covered bind8 and that's why nothing was working, I unmerged it, put my box back on the DMZ and reconfigured the network only to find that it wasn't working.
Last night I was able to plug the ethernet back into the switch behind the firewall and use dhcp, but now it's not working.
Attempts to ping IPs return HOST IS UNREACHABLE and DNS lookups aren't working at all, they just hang forever.
when I dmesg, the first 100 or so lines say:
Code: | IN from bad port 64 at c0161960
IN from bad port 64 at c0161960
IN from bad port 64 at c0161960
IN from bad port 64 at c0161960
IN from bad port 64 at c0161960
.
.
. |
then I have:
Code: | i8042.c: i8042 controller self test timeout.
Serial: 8250/16550 driver $Revision: 1.90 $ 8 ports, IRQ sharing disabled
IN from bad port 3f9 at c0166324
IN from bad port 3f9 at c0166324
IN from bad port 3f9 at c0166324
IN from bad port 2f9 at c0166324
IN from bad port 2f9 at c0166324
IN from bad port 2f9 at c0166324
IN from bad port 3e9 at c0166324
IN from bad port 3e9 at c0166324
IN from bad port 3e9 at c0166324
IN from bad port 2e9 at c0166324
IN from bad port 2e9 at c0166324
IN from bad port 2e9 at c0166324 |
then an error about pmac_zilog, but I dunno if that has anything to do with it.
named is NOT running, and I even went through the trouble of deleting all of my bind zone files and init.d scripts relating to named and bind. /etc/resolv.conf shows what it's supposed to and I quadruple checked to make sure I didn't just mis-type the DNS IPs. netstat -l shows nothing interesting, either (named isn't running).
I've tried rebooting, but to no avail, and when the machine starts up, sshd starts listening on 0.0.0.0, however ifconfig eth0 shows the proper IP configuration (when I set it up manually for the DMZ in /etc/conf.d/net).
I also booted off the LiveCD and set up networking and it started up fine, so I know it's not a hardware issue.
any ideas? _________________ Spike Grobstein

I disabled the drivers for i8042 serial and 8250/16550, recompiled my kernel, installed it, and rebooted...
the IN errors have stopped, but networking is still not working.
