I've encountered the following problems in stage3 installation
After sync, when emerge -u world, it failed at perl-5.6.1-r10 ebuild.
walkaround 1 tried: modifying the MAKEOPTS to j1. still cannot go through
walkaround 2 tried: modified /usr/portage/profiles/packages.mask and masked perl-5.6.1-r8 to perl-5.6.1-r10. this time perl-5.6.1-r7 builds successfully and emerge-u world proceeded, but...
When building sys-apps/iptables-1.2.7a, it failed again, with similiar making errors as in perl's making.

I'm trying to rsync and emerge again, meanwhile please give me input or pointer to possible solutions.

| i did also had problems with perl 5.6, i switched to 5.8 |

Just to add my .02: I made the initial "emerge -ub world" without modifying the MAKEOPTS variable and it worked out without a glitch. My dual p3 Pc @home is now compiling kde 3.1_rc6 with MAKEOPTS="-j3" ... before I leaved it was on kdenetwork ... no troubles ... hope it is still fine when I'll get home

I'm still encountering the following errors in making iptables-1.2.7a, anybody knows how to deal with it?

Update
After using CFFLAGS="-march=i586 -O3 -pipe" and masking perl-5.6.1-r8 to r10, the world is buit.
