|
I am typing this report from my eMachines M6811 Mobile Athlon64 laptop.
The installation was a breeze and it works so far, but I am somewhat disappointed of the graphics performance:
glxgears shows an average of 1330 fps. My P3-666 with a GeForce3 Ti500 gets about 3050 fps.
Anyways, here is some interesting stuff for you:

Any advice on improving the graphics perfomance and getting the wireless adapter to work is welcomed |

Congratulations on a successful install.
Also, please be advised that glxgears is not an accurate benchmark. I've seen times where I get anwhere from 5-10k fps with the same programs running _________________ Linux User 355087 |

I have the gateway 7422 and both are arima built and pretty much identicle. The ndiswrapper worked for the existing wireless card. I just ordered a Prism GT mini-pci card to replace the broadcom that comes with these laptops and I'll let you know how that goes. From everything that i can find online, it appears the arima laptops do not have the bios whitelist that plagues the HP/Compaq laptops. From you're /proc/cpuinfo it looks like you have freq_scalling working, that was the biggest pain for me. Ok I can't lie the stupid ati card was the toughest part. |

Thanks, but I ran Gentoo64 on this machines before. I was surprised that ATI didn't have 64-bit drivers at that time, so I purged the install and went with Gentoo32. And then I had the breaking-hinges problem...

Yeah, I followed the Power Management instructions and now it works pretty sweetly. |
