|
|
I'm some what of a n00b but I managed to get the kernel compiled and grub installed. Now when I try to emerge metalog and uixie-crom Portage can not find any download sites. I either get failed connection or file not found error from all the sites. Can I get the needed files manually? All the other packages installed just fine including grub. Oh yeah I also updated the tree. Didn't help....
Thanks,

Not sure how to do that although I did run the mirrorselect on my make.conf even though this was "optional" in chapter 6 of install guide.

yes this has happened to me at various times during my many installation attempts.
for me i couldnt emerge metalog, vixie-cron, slocate, e100 and dhcpcd...so what i did was try at another time during the day. i tried this installation at about midnight and voila everything emerged...
i hope this helps you..YMMV |

No problem,look at /etc/make.conf
Code: | nano -w /etc/make.conf | and remove the stuff mirrorselect put in there,here is mine
# These settings were set by the catalyst build script that automatically built this stage
# Please consult /etc/make.conf.example for a more detailed example
CFLAGS="-O2 -march=pentium4 -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe"
CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu"
CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}"
USE="apache2 cddb gimp gtkhtml imagemagick imlib2 java mmx mmx2 mp3 \
mplayer nvidia ppds sse sse2 syslog -oss -arts -kde -libg -qt \
-quicktime"
MAKEOPTS="-j2"
PORTAGE_NICENESS=3
AUTOCLEAN="yes"
FEATURES="sandbox ccache candy"
CCACHE_SIZE="2G"
This way you will use the default mirror and it works good for me,I had the same problem with mirrorselect and I'm not alone.good luck _________________ http://dev.gentoo.org/~dabbott/ |

Yeah after removing the mirrorselect the frist attempt connected. What is the point of mirrorselect then? And yeah I'm not going to mistype that AGAIN!
