When I booted with no hangs it seemed I got it right this time but all i get is a dead keyboard: no input at all (not even different characters than the keys i'm typing)...prompt is blinking but i cannot type anything...

Code:
This is fbook.unknown_domain (Linux ppc 2.6.7-gentoo-r14) 06:26:45

fbook login:_

please-please: any tips/ideas would be very much appreciated... :)

ps: this installation lies on a Pismo PowerBook (FireWire)

It could be your kernel configuration. In Powerbooks the internal keyboard and trackpad are both ADB, so go to Device drivers -> Macintosh device drivers and make sure you check "Apple Desktop Bus (ADB) support" and "Support for ADB input devices (keyboard, mice, ...)" (and maybe the options that follow). As the minimum you should have in your .config
Code:
CONFIG_ADB=y
CONFIG_INPUT_ADBHID=y

seems you're right bruda, thanks for the tip.

but now i get another error:

Code:
This is fbook.unknown_domain (Linux ppc 2.6.7-gentoo-r14) 21:24:31

fbook login: root [enter]

login: PAM Failure, aborting: Critical error - immediate abort

i get the same error trying to login as a user (not root) as well...

??:(??

This appears to be a widely encountered problem, see e.g. this thread. I seem to recall that the solution therein helps, but I have never encountered the problem myself (my installations are older) so I cannot be sure.
