i'm following the handbook and when i:

cp /proc/mounts /etc/mtab

what the hell happened, this command worked before, what did i could have possibly done different? How are the directories created?

You do not mention what actually happens when U run that command ?

cp: cannot stat '/proc/mounts': No such file or directory

are you sure U did this step from the handbook?

i think i did, how can get out of the chroot im in so i try the command again?

type mount while in chroot, and you should be able to confirm that you ran that command.. you should see a mount for /proc

its not there so i must have accidentally skipped it.
i tried putting it in now, but it won't take it.
how do i fix this?

Just type "exit" to get out of chroot.

Be very very sure to run these commands after you re-enter chroot to continue with the install:

source /etc/profile
