|
|
I was fooling around with KPovModeler and looked to see if there is an updated version available so I went to the Online Package Database and looked it up. When I looked at versions it looks sort-of strange (to me).
Looking at the About KPovModeler it tells me I'm using KPovModeler 1.1.1 (Using KDE 3.2.2)
The Online Package Database lists only 3.4.0 Beta (1&2) which are Masked
Shouldn't the current version be listed in Portage? I'm not sure if this is a KDE thing or not.
What started me looking was because when I tried to render something (just to try it out) I get the message
Quote: | Couldn't call povray.
Please check your installation or set another povray command. |
So it just gets curiouser and curiouser.. _________________ Gentoo / Windows 98 (dual boot)

KPovModeler is (was) part of a much larger KDE package. As of KDE 3.4.0, which is currently masked, the KDE packages are being broken up into much smaller units so that people who want to install only very specific KDE apps without installing all the huge KDE metapackages can do so. This is why there are a lot of KDE apps that are just now showing up new in portage. They've been around for quite a while, but just as parts to much bigger packages.
Also, povray is not a dependency of KPovModeler. You need to make sure you have emerged PovRay if you wish to render. _________________ "...as we enjoy great advantages from the inventions of others, we should be glad of an opportunity to serve others by any invention of ours, and this we should do freely and generously." -Benjamin Franklin |

Thanks for the info.
Emerging Povray worked like a charm. Now I'm a happy camper playing around!
I can understand wanting to provide a means to not install everything from KDE if one doesn't want to. Since I'm still learning the programs KDE includes is fine with me.
Six months from now, ask me again. _________________ Gentoo / Windows 98 (dual boot)
