The message below has also been put as a support ticket on the lm-sensors site. I was originally running nitro3-2.6.9 and everything was working. I move from the 'darkside' to use gentoo-2.6.10 and lm-sensors b0rks.
I have previously set up lm-sensors + fancontrol on kernel 2.6.9.
The ouput of sensors-detect gave me:
Driver `w83781d' (may not be inserted):
Misdetects:
* ISA bus address 0x0290 (Busdriver `i2c-isa')
Chip `Winbond W83627HF' (confidence:
Driver `w83627hf' (should be inserted):
Detects correctly:
* ISA bus address 0x0290 (Busdriver `i2c-isa')
Chip `Winbond W83627HF Super IO Sensors' (confidence: 9)
I went ahead and attempted to use w83627hf, but upon modprobing I would receive a fatal error (No such device). I attemped w83781d and this was inserted correctly. 'sensors -s' worked, pwmconfig allowed me to set up the config to my needs, and fancontrol did it's job. All was well with the world.
I have since attempted an upgrade to gentoo-2.6.10-r6. 'fancontrol' failed. 'pwmconfig' reported 'no pwm to control' (or some such) but 'sensors' gave the same output, as did 'sensors-detect'. I fiqured that w83627hf may now work correctly and attempted to modprobe that but this resulted in the same 'no such device' error.
So what this all boils down to is that the module 'w83781d' no longer allows me to control the fans though it still lets me view the information via 'sensors'.
How can I fix this error? You have no idea just how noisy this computer is.
If anybody here can shed some light i'd be much appreciative.
