serial port

hello
i have a sun U10, to which i want to connect via a terminal trought the serial port.
the problem is, i cant connect to it with linux with window's hyperterminal it works fine.
i am 100% sure the connection settings (9600 8N1) are correct and i am using the correct port (A) and the right cable.
betwen 2 linux boxes i can make a serial connection just fine...
i tried various programs on linux like minicom, gtkterm, kermit and cutecom.
they just hang without doing anything...
i am using an x86 2.6.9 kernel (also tried it with a 2.4.26 one) and i enabled most of the serial options that made sense...
