I didn't see this specific thing in the grub error sticky so I thought I'd get your opinions.
Recently I had the power in my house flip off and back on quickly. It didn't reset clocks, and didn't turn off TV but what it did do was power off my gentoo box and now one of the two harddrives in there are clicking. It's dead and RMA'd. The other drive that the OS was on tested fine with the HD Diag software but when I attempted to boot it back up the screen fills with GRUB GRUB GRUB ... you get the picture.
I reinstalled everything this morning and same effect, Grub just fills the screen. I am RMA'ing this drive as well but I was wondering if you all thought it might be the drive or possibly the IDE controller. Any thoughts?
Thanks. _________________ Note: This post is a natural product. The slight variations in spelling and grammar enhance its individual character and beauty and in no way are to be considered flaws or defects. |

Hmm...I vaguely remember about a year or so ago that I encountered a problem similar, if not just, to this. Of course I was running in a dual boot environment(Win2K/Gentoo). I resolved it by running MBRFIX. _________________ "It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people's minds." |
