I've been trying to figure this one out for the past couple of weeks. I have VSFTP set up on Gentoo. I have two users set up. One of the users has been set up for a long time and the other was just set up. Both users can ftp to my server using WS_FTP with no problems, but when the new user tries to ftp to my server using internet explore I get the following error message:

Windows cannot access this folder. Make sure you typed the file name correctly and that you have permission to access the folder.

Details:
The server name or address could not be resolved

I've also tried other ftp programs and they all work too.

The only reason I would like to get this to work is because I may be on a computer that only has internet explorer and no other ftp program.

Nothing in common with Gentoo and Linux in general. Complain to Microsoft.

If that's the case, why can one of the users login using IE ftp and the other can't?

Different IE version? OK, I don´t give a damn about it. If you have not yet noticed, this is Gentoo forum, solve your MS troubles elsewhere... :x

If this was a MS problem I would solve it elsewhere, but its an authenticating problem with Gentoo.

One user can login and the other can't, using the SAME IE version.

My Red Hat box doesn't have this problem.
