|
|
I got everything installed. I then rebooted my computer and selected Gentoo in Grub. It loaded a few files and then stopped when it tried to mount something. Here is what I see.
* Mounting proc at /proc... [oops]
* The "mount" command failed with error:
Line 1: mount: Command not found
* Since this is a critical task startup cannot continue.
Then it prompts me to put in my root password or press control-D. When I do it crashes and reboots. What did I do wrong when I installed Gentoo?
I am a bit new to Linux so any help is greatly appreciated!

I used stage2 to install from. I will try emerge coreutils.
EDIT:
Why is it telling me the emerge command is not found? |

I've seen this problem a lot on the forums where for some reason emerge system leaves out neccessary utils. I think the problem is people are forgetting to run env-update and source /etc/profile when they chroot. The solution however is simple, just chroot from the livecd and emerge system again. _________________ "That question was less stupid; though you asked it in a profoundly stupid way."

The stage 2 tarball contains an installation of portage, including emerge. If you are using a stage2 tarball, then emerge should be there. Did you chroot bash to /mnt/gentoo and run env-update and source /etc/profile? _________________ "That question was less stupid; though you asked it in a profoundly stupid way."

Perhaps this is a problem with kernel support for your filesystem. Did you format a drive in, say, rieserfs and forget to build kernel support for reiser? _________________ "That question was less stupid; though you asked it in a profoundly stupid way."
