I got everything installed. I then rebooted my computer and selected Gentoo in Grub. It loaded a few files and then stopped when it tried to mount something. Here is what I see.

* Mounting proc at /proc... [oops]

* The "mount" command failed with error:

Line 1: mount: Command not found

* Since this is a critical task startup cannot continue.

Then it prompts me to put in my root password or press control-D. When I do it crashes and reboots. What did I do wrong when I installed Gentoo?

I am a bit new to Linux so any help is greatly appreciated!

What stage did you use? You're missing something very important... you'll likely need to boot to the LiveCD and emerge something... maybe coreutils.

I used stage2 to install from. I will try emerge coreutils.

EDIT:
Why is it telling me the emerge command is not found?

I've seen this problem a lot on the forums where for some reason emerge system leaves out neccessary utils. I think the problem is people are forgetting to run env-update and source /etc/profile when they chroot. The solution however is simple, just chroot from the livecd and emerge system again.

The stage 2 tarball contains an installation of portage, including emerge. If you are using a stage2 tarball, then emerge should be there. Did you chroot bash to /mnt/gentoo and run env-update and source /etc/profile?

Perhaps this is a problem with kernel support for your filesystem. Did you format a drive in, say, rieserfs and forget to build kernel support for reiser?

This post has been inactive for a while so I'm going to assume it's solved and stop watching it. If so be sure to append [SOLVED] to the topic of your first post. If you need more help just pm me. Adios 8).
