I am looking to start a business in a large metropolitan area (outside the U.S.) that would bring Linux/Samba solutions to local businesses. I have made quite a few calls to various computer companies and no one around here that I know of is agressively marketing Linux solutions. Even though almost everyone also acknowledges that someone should.
There is a list of computer consultants, systems integrators, IT shops, computer stores, and the like a mile long around here. And I have yet to find any of them that are focused on anything other than Windows or Mac and they are all extremely busy with work. So there is ample opoorunity I think to start something with Linux and to make some darn good money at it.
Problem is, that although I have several years of desktop Linux experience (conversions, various distributions, compiling from source, command line, etc.. I use Gentoo Linux myself) I have almost none with Samba.
In reading through the Samba documentation it's not as easy to convert a Windows Server to using Samba as one would initially think. There are things that Samba can't even do such as become a full fledged Active Directory Server Domain Controller. And there are many aspects of a conversion that are not even related to Samba itself such as user resistance to change and the like.
So...what I need is someone very experienced in Samba network management in a mixed Linux / Windows networking environment who is willing to make some extra money on the side. Such that they would be willing to help me, by phone if neccessary, to work through Samba solutions for local businesses and to wade through the issues not directly related to Samba itself but that would be involved in any kind of conversion.
I would be willing to pay hourly, per minute, to share the profit, a percentage cut, or other such arrangements to get such help. I think there is a lucrative market there and I want to take advantage of it but feeling a little uncertain given my relative lack of experience with Samba. I would do all marketing, selling, and implementations of Samba networking. I would just need backup support in case I got stuck. I have read through most all the Samba documentation and the book Using Samba and will be learning to use it on a mixed home network. So I am not a complete novice but I do need some support as a backup in case I run into something I am not prepared for.
If anyone is willing to discuss this with me, with a view to making some potentially outstanding part-time income, please email me at senorcarlos123@yahoo.ie (no I am not in Ireland ) and we can discuss it further. Thanks.
