So, I just did a fresh Gentoo install. I've done it a few times before, so I'm not a complete newb at least. I'm not really sure what to do about this problem though. I got KDevelop emerged again, but for C++ programs at least, automake seems to be failing. I did a deep world update and I've tried re-emerging autoconf and automake. No luck so far. Any idea why KDevelop is giving this feedback when it tries to compile a hello world program? Is there a path variable that needs to be set? Is there a version conflict somewhere?

Code:
cd '/home/mythtv/testcpp' && WANT_AUTOCONF_2_5="1" WANT_AUTOMAKE_1_6="1" gmake -f Makefile.cvs && cd '/home/mythtv/testcpp/debug' && CXXFLAGS="-O0 -g3" "/home/mythtv/testcpp/configure" --enable-debug=full && cd '/home/mythtv/testcpp/debug' && WANT_AUTOCONF_2_5="1" WANT_AUTOMAKE_1_6="1" gmake -k

I currently have installed...
Autoconf 2.59
Automake 1.9.4
KDE 3.1.2
KDevelop 3.3.2
QT 3.3.3

Any advice?

I'm having the same problem just on my AMD64 w/KDevelop 3.1.2 and KDE 3.3.2. Would really love to get this resolved but until then I'm gonna just use Anjuta I guess. :)

When configure is run in KDevelop in a project it gives this feedback.

Code:

...
checking command to parse /usr/bin/nm -B output from gcc object... ok
checking for objdir... .libs
checking for ar... ar
checking for ranlib... ranlib
checking for strip... strip
checking for correct ltmain.sh version... no

*** Gentoo sanity check failed! ***
*** libtool.m4 and ltmain.sh have a version mismatch! ***
*** (libtool.m4 = 1.5.10, ltmain.sh = 1.5a) ***

Please run:

libtoolize --copy --force

if appropriate, please contact the maintainer of this
package (or your distribution) for help.

*** Exited with status: 1 ***

The suggested libtoolize command then suggests I run the aclocal command, but that didn't fix anything. I'm still working on remedying this version mismatch. I'll post more if I have success sorting this out.

I had the same problem. I solved it with a libtool downgread

Code:

emerge =sys-devel/libtool-1.5.2-r7

I also have that aclocal messages, but I don't know to get rid of them

hope that helps (if not, tell me)

Moved from Portage & Programming to Duplicate Threads, refer to topic "Libtool.m4 and ltmain.sh Problems". This problem has been reported in the KDE bug tracking system, where it has been marked as an invalid bug, though it is also mentioned in the kdevelop FAQ.
