Qwest gives us DSL service, and sent us a CD which we have to use to get it to work on a computer. Unfortunately, it only works for Windows and MAC Operating Systems. They said that I would have to find someone in the Linux community who could help me.
My server is going to be used to host a free online game. the specs are:
1,8GHZ P4 478pin
256MB RAM
40GB HD
it has an ethernet port
And I will install Gentoo on it soon. I wanted to make sure that it wasn't one of the installation features or something.
I would really appreciate it if someone who could figure it out could contact me. I could get further information if they needed it, but I want to get this going fairly soon.
Thanks. |

The generic rp-pppoe driver should work for you. Installation and configuration is quite easy. The Live CD provides all neccessary tools to install over DSL. Read here and here for details _________________ ALT-F4 |

Well I dont know about Quest, but with SBC you have to actually register using their software. I ended up having to call SBC and have one of them register for me. Then I could log in to the modem (via http) and setup PPPoE to connect with my username and password. My modem maintains the connection so that no computers on my LAN have to. I havent heard of a DSL modem that requires the client computer to setup a PPPoE connection in a long time.
The SBC rep was very confused and didnt know what linux was. She was convinced I had windowsXP and was a dumbass (Is it a PC or Mac?). I told her to web browse to linux.org and read the intro. She then said whatever and registered me. Didnt take very long and was actually worth the humor. =) _________________ Are you intolerant of intolerant people? Tired of being PC yet? |
