Hi,

I was going to retrieve some files from my other HDD, so I took out my current HDD, and plugged in the other HDD.

When I tried to start the computer, I a series of 8 beeps. What is going on? My monitor didn't even start. What is wrong with my HDD?

The 8 beeps signification depends on the mobo (o r better of the bios on the mobo) Also important is to now if it are continuos beeps or if there are pauses between beeps.
the most likely I can think is that the jumper on the new HDD isn't set correctly.

This may seem stupid, but still worth a try:

Check that all cables are in place (you could accidently remove some of them while swapping HDDs), that your VGA, RAM and other devices are in their slots.

I just check, and it is an Award BIOS. Accoding to this site:

http://www.amptron.com/html/bios.beepcodes.html

8 continuous beep is not mentioned.

So I think this is my problem:

Beep code: Repeating (Endless loop)
Meaning: Memory error
Possible Cause: Bad memory or bad connection

How do I confirm it?

EDIT:

OKay, here's what happened.

I took out my Gentoo HHD so I can hook up my SuSE HHD, and transfer all files into this computer. This way, I can erase the SuSE HHD and use it as hdb on my Gentoo.

But when I hooked up my SuSE, my computer started making this beeping noise. 8 beeps, pause, then repeat.

So I thought it was the SuSE HHD. Then I tried a different HHD, my Fedora HHD, and it beeped on me too! So I went back to the Gentoo HHD, and was beeping on it too! All HHDs are getting the beep. So I thought maybe it is my RAM. So I swapped the RAM sticks with this computer, and restarted both computer. This computer worked; no prob. But the other is still beeping! So I took out all the wires, and reconnected them all. And is still beeping! WTF!!!? I have no cards connected on AGP or PCI.

Please help. :( :( :(

Nothing comes on my monitor. My monitor did not even come on when I switched on my computer.
