In sshd.conf I have:
UsePAM no
X11Forwarding yes
all other setting are without any changes.
When I log-in over ssh I can run individual X application except gimp-2.0 (will not run).
I can startkde but startx will not work. The machine I'm logging into is running KDE already; so startx -- :1 will not work either over ssh; but when I run startx -- :1 on in the console on the remote machine it runs just fine (I have another X session running).
Any pointers. |

vncserver might be a good option... X11 forwarding can be insecure (e.g. with xhost). |

Is it the same thing as VNC "Remote Desktop Connection" in KDE? |

i would assume so. i'm not a kde user, but it sounds like Xvnc (consisting of vncviewer and vncserver) was emerged on your system and kde had created a nice shortcut for you. in general i prefer vnc over X11 forwarding. google to find out more. |
