I have a rather serious problem on my server now. I'm redoing my raid5 (6x250GB drives, divided into three equal raid partitions, for easier manipulation), and I'm moving a lot of data around. To err on the side of caution, I did a diff on the directories after copying them, and that gave me quite a shock. A LOT of the files just weren't the same after copying them! When looking more closely, it turned out that the problem was copying them to reiserfs partitions (v3.6), but there was no borks when copying to ext3 or reiser4.
Here's an example:
Code:
>> cp /storage/raid5_1/testfile /storage/200GS/
>> md5sum /storage/raid5_1/testfile /storage/200GS/testfile
7062fa7e5c3944dbcb11226db457ca73  /storage/raid5_1/testfile
a068319ae17898e168bca9d1ad6695d2  /storage/200GS/testfile

:x

Do anyone have any suggestion where to start looking for errors? Could this be a kernel bug? (A pretty damn serious one at that.) Have anyone experienced this before?

I'm running linux-2.6.11-rc2-mm2 kernel.

EDIT: Changed the subject, since it's no longer valid.
It turns out that I still get broken copies after converting the disk to ext3. There isn't anything in the dmesg that should indicate any problems either. I'm just wondering whether this problem could be due to cabling, but that should probably cause error messages. Suggestions?
