|
|
I have build a new gentoo in a chroot shell from stage1.
I have done bootstrap , emerge system , etc. and built my usual kernel from within the chroot and copied it to the usual boot partition (taking care not to confuse the different mount points from within the chroot shell.)
The kernel starts to boot , sees all the hardware , disks etc. then shows a ramdisk error and drops me out to single user with / mounted ro , not /etc/mtab and not much to play with.
Code: | RAMDISK cant find valid ramdisk starting at 0 |
Or something like that . I cant copy exactly because it leaves me in a ro filesystem and cant mount or umount anything
This same build of the kernel does work from the usual boot to the old system.
Any help?
TIA ![Cool 8)](images/smiles/icon_cool.gif) _________________ Linux, because I'd rather own a free OS than steal one that's not worth paying for.

Well it has been there for the last 12 months but it seemed so dumb it might be possible that it had disappeared so I checked.
ramdisk and initrd are both intact.
While I was in there I scanned the whole kernel config , all is as I expected.
I have used this kernel since sept , so I dont know why it is bolloxing around now.
Just had a little voice in my ear: coreutils , off to ck.
Thx ![Cool 8)](images/smiles/icon_cool.gif) _________________ Linux, because I'd rather own a free OS than steal one that's not worth paying for.
