|
|
I have recently bought a CMD680 ide raid controller for aprox 25$ USD
(shipped). Ihave read several indepth reviews:
www.xbitlabs.com/storage/cmd680/
www.xbitlabs.com/storage/3-ata133-comparison/
this controller is an amazing solution for the price. BUT so far in all my googling I have not found any raid support in linux, but it does support it as a regular ide udma 133 controller. I wanted to inform everybody of this remarkable but cheap raid controller to help bring kernel raid support to the cmd680 like the high point and promise controllers. |

Hello,
I,ve had this lying around for awhile and now I'd like to do a stage1 install with it but, I have run into some snaggs.
1) I cannot seem to load up the right modules to access the controller. (ataraid, promise , ht) dont seem to work.
2) Inturn I cannot cfdisk any part of the hard drive to setup the partions dev/(hde) let alone install anything.
If anyone has an idea please let me know. |

The only available kernels supporting it (as of March 04, 2003) are:
ac-sources-2.4.21_pre5-r1
and
development-sources-2.5.60
(later versions of these id assume would as well)
i have to sacrifice good storage for a good kernel
so im using the -ac one cause development wont boot.
i run mine as a straight ide card (not raid) and it works great
see also these coupla posts
basically... support now is there but limited,
support in the future will be mainline in 2.6

Hello,
Well now I know what to do as far as the kernel but what I meant was How do I get started from scratch with this ide/raid card ie. stage 1 install. All the info points to software raid and promise & HT ide cards. My porblem is I can't even open up (hde). What can I do?
Thanks again. |
