Stream video from windows netbios share

How do I stream a .avi from a Windows netbios share? Now in aviplay I get smb protocol not supported and in mplayer: not compiled with smb-support. Do I need to give extra options to mplayer before compiling? I'd really like to use aviplay though.

Well, it only works when you manually mount the share first (at least as far as I can tell for now). However, aviplay and mplayer both work in that case as well.
