Hello,
I'm trying to freshly (is that a word?) upgrade my system from 1.2 to 1.4_rc2. I had a lot of junk so I figured I would reformat and take advantage of gcc3.2. While compiling, I got a few errors that seemed pretty normal, however I got the following which make it puke:

Code:

gcc -march=i686 -03 -pipe   -o makedoc  makedoc.o ../lib/libtxi.a  -lncurses
rm -f doc.c funs.h key.c
./makedoc ./session.c ./echo-area.c ./infodoc.c ./m-x.c ./indices.c ./nodemenu.c ./foornotes.c ./variables.c
make[2]: *** [doc.c] Illegal instruction
make[2]: *** Deleting file 'doc.c'
make[2]: Leaving directory '/var/tmp/portage/textinfo-4.3-r1/work/textinfo'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory '/var/tmp/portage/textinfo-4.3-r1/work/textinfo-4.3'
make: *** [all] Error 2

!!! ERROR: sys-apps/textinfo-4.3-r1 failed.
!!! Function src_compile, Line -222, Exitcode 2
!!! (no error message)

I'm not sure whats wrong, I've compiled stuff, and have been using gentoo for a while now. Sorry if something is placed wrong as I had to type it from my desktop onto my laptop.

My system is a AMD k6-2 300 with 196megs ram. If more specs are needed, let me know, and I will post them.

Well thanks to the post two above (Processor architectures.) I figured out what was wrong. The site admin said that K6's can't run i686 binaries.. well.. guess what I had the arch-type as? i686. I changed to i586 and it works fine :) Sorry about the quick post.
