Hey,
The thing is some time ago I have changed kernel to 2.6.1xxx
Previously I had gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.9 on my laptop (HP nx9005) and the folowing things had been working:
- hibernation via software suspend 2 of course
- gensplash (framebuffer console and progress bar thing)
- iptables
I hadn't had wi-fi at that time.
Then of course it came to emerge -uDv world and everything changed....
I don't know why but after updating to gentoo-dev-sources 2.6.10-gentoo-r6 my gensplash stopped working :/
I have been trying following kernels:
2.6.10-gentoo-r6 -- it's patched with gensplash so I can't have hibernation get working
2.6.10-r1 (development sources that is) -- it's my current kernel so I can either choose with hibernation or gensplash (as I can't patch the kernel with both of them at one time), however when I compile iptables my system hanges whenever I plug my rt2500 compilant wi-fi PCMCIA card). Morover the latest update of synaptics drivers probably caused that after resuming my touchpad doesn't work anymore (I think it's beause of this)....
2.6.11-rc1-love1 -- probably I couldn't patch it with hibernation or someting
2.6.11-rc2 -- probably the problem with hibernation or gensplash
2.6.11-rc3 -- and here I have sucessfully patched it with softsusp2 patch but I got blank screen when my system starts Qingy, however I haven't checked it without quingy....
Well.... the thing is that I neither don't have that much time that I could spend on finding what's wrong with some kernel versions nor I don't heve that advanced knowledge in linux.
I'm trying to switch from microsoft windows to linux but now I find it dificullt as whener I update for instance a synaptics driver my hibernation doesn't work anymore. It's really confusing and annoying sometimes (for me the conclusion is: if I could afford I would choose MacOS....).
I am really into Open Software and linux as a desktop operating system and I hate microsoft for their politics, but is it possible to switch to linux without being linux power guru?
So my qestion is -- what should I do (starting from choosing some decent kernel version) to have at least hibernation working and iptables with my rt2500 wi-fi.
I would also appreciate the gensplash as I find it really eye candy ( besides I love my angelina jolie as my framebuffer background
Please help me! I do not want to switch back do windows
