im trying to unmute my emu10k1 soundcard

| run alsamixer, and then use the cursors to hover over the mixer item and the ones with MM on the bottom are muted. Just press "m" on it. |

I've tried that and that didn't work 
But I search in the foum and found out that kmix work for someone, and ofcourse I tried it and that worked for me too
