Heyho,
since some time i got my amd64 box booting very slow.
At first i thought, that it is frozen but after some time (1,5 Minutes or 2) it continues.
The point where it is waiting is when it says:
calculating module dependencies
Is there a hint what i have misconfigured. Suse 8.2 which i have erased yesterday was realy fast on startup.
I'm pretty lucky with my system now... this is the only issue i have now and i would like to now what's happening at this point.
Some suggestions?
Greetings

Do you use any modules at all? What is your output of lsmod? If you don't use any modules I'd actually just disable them to save the startup time. I just build everything directly into the kernel. Not sure if this will help but someone wrote a nice guide on how to speed up gentoo. And part of that guide includes the bootup time enhancements. One of them is how to modify modprobe so you could try it out. I've done this on a few systems and never had any problems with the bottup enhancements mentioned in that guide.

Hope it helps |
