|
|
I dunno what I've done, but the root user won't let me login on KDE.
After typing the password and the loginscreen dissapears, a small black horizontal line comes up in the top left corner, and back to the loginscreen again.
But this other user works perfectly.
I've tried to copy over all settings from this user to root to fix the problem, no diff.
I copied the settings from ~/.kde3.3/shared/config/* - please help me out.
I first suspected my problems with changing the ksplashscreen since that's what coming after the loginscreen.
But copying over those settings as well didn't make any diff.
Thanks for any help. _________________ ___________

Mhm, you are strongly advised not to login as root in X anyway, so why do you care? |

Yeah, you are right. I know. But it's nice to have the root if this would happen to my other user too _________________ ___________

vim /usr/kde/3.4/share/config/kdm/kdmrc
Code: |
# Allow root logins?
# Default is true
AllowRootLogin=false
|
Looks like the KDE default is true and the gentoo default is false. I dont remember changing this since I use gdm instead of kdm.
I strongly advise you to disable this. If you have to start an entire WM for root operations, you are more than likely doing something wrong. _________________ Are you intolerant of intolerant people? Tired of being PC yet? |

I was just in KDE with root, and I have not changed this:
Code: |
damned@Home ~ $ cat /usr/kde/3.3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc |grep 'AllowRoot'
AllowRootLogin=false
AllowRootLogin=true
|
I'll try and remove 'AllowRootLogin=false' - as I wish to get back in root. Troubles me to have issues eventho there's some workarounds. _________________ ___________

Nope, the kde default is false, and the kde hardcoded default is true. |

You can run "xhost +" from your console as your user and then execute a root command from a konsole shell.
-or-
You can use the Run dialog on the KMenu to launch root processess, Click the options button. _________________ Are you intolerant of intolerant people? Tired of being PC yet? |

I deleted the whole /root/ and built it up again, that worked. And the windows and programs that I need root access for i just run kdesu infront. Both problems solved. _________________ ___________
