I have a SATA HDD that needs a patch which is available in 2.6.11 (whenever it gets released). In kernels before that patch, the kernel can't see my HDD.
Will it be possible to install Gentoo to that drive once the new kernel is released, or will I have to wait until the kernel is incorporated into the Gentoo installer? Does anyone know how to go about installing Linux to a drive that the installer perhaps can't see, but an updated kernel can? |

I suggest you install Gentoo using knoppix, or using lxnay's liveCD. Both of these have kernels that are more recent than that on the Gentoo liveCD. |
